Checking Ubuntu version Number
Ubuntu is one of the most widely used Linux distributions. It has issued 34 semi-annual releases since its inception in October 2004. With such a long list of releases, it’s easy to lose track of the version number of one’s current Ubuntu installation. In this lesson, we’ll look at how to determine the version number of any Ubuntu installation.

Examining the Ubuntu Version
To check the version number, we’ll use the lsb release tool, which prints distro-specific information.

To print the version number of your Ubuntu, run the following.
lsb_release -a

The -a flag specifies the software to print all details i.e. codename, release , id , distribution and LSB version.
