A Google and YouTube survey found that 84% of viewers say they’d rather watch a video with clear audio and average visuals than a beautifully shot video with bad sound.
If you’re a content creator, filmmaker, or podcaster, that means your microphone choice matters more than you think!

In this video, I test 4 categories of microphones to help you decide what type is right for you:
Condenser Mics – Crisp and clear, but sometimes too sensitive
Dynamic Mics – Podcaster and broadcaster mic
Lavalier Mics – Hands-free but with some downsides
All-in-One Wireless Mics – Convenient, but are they right for you?

This is a practical guide focused on real-world recording environments.
The mics tested are budget-friendly and probably won’t impress audio professionals, but for people getting started, this should help you pick the right type of mic for your needs.

For transparency: I applied only minimal EQ and volume compression to keep the sound as natural as possible—so you can hear what each mic really sounds like.

Which mic sounds best to you? Let me know in the comments!

NEXT STEP: Once your audio is sorted, next get better color in your videos. Watch this to learn why setting white balance to a Kelvin value isn’t the best idea:
