There are so many Svchost.exe processes becauses they help provide the services for your Windows apps to work properly. Svchost.exe means sevice host. Yes, as a /”host/” they provide essential services such as network, audio and more for your apps other functions of your computer.

At first Windows used to group similar svchost services into one process, But, since 2017, Windows separated even similar svchost processes run to independently. The goal was to make operating more stable and consistent. But, this change likely increased the amount of svchost processes in the Task Manager.

Overall, you should not worry about many service host processes. But, in rare cases malware may hide itself as svchost to avoid detection.
