History. During the First Age, Orcrist was forged alongside its “mate”, Glamdring by Elf smiths, and might been used by King Turgon or one of the Lords of the Gondolindrim in the Goblin Wars.

After the collapse of the bridge, Gandalf and the Balrog fought on to the Endless Stair and Durin’s Tower, but in his recollection of the event he does not tell whether he used Glamdring or his staff in the Battle of the Peak. Gandalf came back as the white wizard because the current white wizard (Saruman) had turned his back on what the Maia were meant to be doing in Middle Earth and had joined Sauron in his goal of domination of Middle Earth. Because Saruman had abandoned his purpose Eru appointed Gandalf to be the next white wizard.

Lord Voldemort

After Gandalf struck down the Balrog, Gandalf did die, this was due to many things, i.e. the fight with the Balrog the freezing temperature (sp), his general lack off food etc (the battle did go on for quite a number of days), but Gandalf’s body finally died on Zirac Zigil where he had finally killed the Balrog!
