The majority of chemicals used in the black and white darkroom are classified in the range of non-toxic to slightly toxic. However, black and white developers can be toxic, especially if when ingested or inhaled or when in contact with bare skin.

In general, color developers are more hazardous than black and white developers. Para-phenylene diamine, and its dimethyl and diethyl derivatives are known to be highly toxic by skin contact and absorption, inhalation, and ingestion. They can cause very severe skin irritation, allergies and poisoning.

The three basic chemicals are (1) Developer (2) Stop Bath and (3) Fixer. Mix these with the appropriate amount of water and store them in your bottles. Photographic Paper. Photographic paper is sensitive to light and should be handled only in a darkroom with the correct safelight.

As mentioned above, images can be over or underexposed causing colours to be too dark or too light. But you can also end up with colours looking all messed up because of poor or artificial lighting. Such as that image of the blue and black dress.

What is a high-resolution image? A high-resolution image is anything that has at is 300 dpi high resolution with a larger pixel dimension, for example, 5000 × 4000 pixels. If you have an image that is 640 × 40 at 72dpi, you definitely have too small of an image!

TIFF – Highest Quality Image Format TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is commonly used by shooters and designers. It is lossless (including LZW compression option). So, TIFF is called the highest quality image format for commercial purposes.

To check a photo’s resolution on a Windows PC, select the file you want to use. Right-click on the image and then select “Properties.” A window will appear with the image’s details. Go to the “Details” tab to see the image’s dimensions and resolution.

In many cases, the best resolution for printing is 300 PPI. At 300 pixels per inch (which roughly translates to 300 DPI, or dots per inch, on a printing press), an image will appear sharp and crisp. These are considered to be high resolution, or high-res, images.

300 pixels

The generally accepted value is 300 pixels/inch. Printing an image at a resolution of 300 pixels/inch squeezes the pixels in close enough together to keep everything looking sharp. In fact, 300 is usually a bit more than you need.

Higher resolutions mean that there more pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in more pixel information and creating a high-quality, crisp image. Images with lower resolutions have fewer pixels, and if those few pixels are too large (usually when an image is stretched), they can become visible like the image below.

The more pixels, the more information collected and the larger the photo. But bigger pictures don’t necessarily mean better pictures. In fact, pixel count alone cannot ensure a quality image.

The larger your camera’s sensor, the larger the photosites, the more resultant megapixels, which allow for a better image and a higher resolution. High resolution is important to ensure that your images are high quality even when you blow up a photo to a larger size.

In general, the larger the sensor, the larger your pixels, and the larger the pixels, the more light you can collect. The more light you can catch, the better your image can be. Larger sensors are the reason that 8 megapixels from a digital SLR camera (or 5 or 13) best those 8 megapixels from a smartphone camera.

The most common side effect of scaling an image larger than its original dimensions is that the image may appear to be very fuzzy or pixelated. Scaling images smaller than the original dimensions does not affect quality as much, but can have other side effects.

Compression In Action Notice there is no difference in the quality of the image. They look the same. However, the file size of the image on the left is 630% larger. This makes a big difference in page load speed, especially when using larger dimension images and when using multiple images on a page.

File size is determined by the number of pixels so the aim is to find out how many pixels the image contains. Since the resolution is 300 dpi, it means that each inch is 300 pixels across. As the image is 8 inches wide that means there are 2,400 pixels in width (8 x 300).

Do more megapixels mean better photo quality? Not necessarily. If you are comparing an 8MP camera phone with a 12MP camera phone it may well be that the pictures you’d be able to take with the 12MP model would be better, but they could also be worse if the sensor is the same size.
