Hatchet is an American slasher film franchise consisting of four films, with a fifth one rumored to be in development. A fifth film has been teased by creator Adam Green, which would leave behind the usual setting of Honey Island Swamp and instead go for a more suburban setting.

Head – Tomahawk heads have a bit and stake (or pipe, etc) on opposite ends, forming a severe triangle shape; hatchets have a bit and a hammer (or poll), creating a less drastic taper. Bit – Tomahawks have a thinner and often longer bit, with straight ‘cheeks’; hatchets are a wider but shorter bit with concave ‘cheeks.

In a sense, a hatchet is an all-purpose utility tool, whereas an ax was used for battle or for forestry. This is not to say that an ax couldn’t be used as a utility tool. You can find axes with longer handles, such as a two-handed ax, but it’s likely you would not find a hatchet with a long handle.
