Like many other Sears products, the Sears firearms were originally made by major firearm manufacturers. The Model 20 was produced by High Standard Arms, as was the Model 88 revolver. The J.C. Higgins brand for Sears sporting goods was replaced with the Ted Williams brand.

Ranger was a trade name used on shotgun by Sears, Roebuck and Company of Chicago, IL in the period 1922-1947. This design was the mainstay of double barrel guns for Stevens and trade brand models from 1915 to 1942. The first Ranger double barrel made by Stevens was the Model 330 in 1922.
