What is Kenny referring to when he sees “the scariest things” he’s ever seen? Describe them. He is referring to the stars in the sky and that there were more than usual. He describes it as if it looks like a deformed, evil, one-armed space robot.

Kenny decides to give his first pair of gloves to Rufus. He tells Momma he lost them and she gives him his second pair. Now the two friends are both armed and ready for snowball fights. Things are great for a few days until Kenny’s new pair of brown leather gloves disappears from the closet at school.

When Momma asks Byron and Kenny to go to Mitchell’s store to get some milk, bread, and tomato paste for her, Byron predictably complains, but Momma makes him go with Kenny anyway. As the boys are leaving, Byron asks for money to pay for the groceries but Momma tells him to just sign for them.

In chapter 7 of The Watsons Go to Birmingham, Byron learns that he can’t pull one over on his parents. He gets his hair straightened, which they also call a process, a do, a butter, and a conk. Momma Watson is furious, but it is Dad who cuts off all of Byron’s hair and then shaves his head. They call him ‘Yul Watson.

Momma is unhappy with Byron because he used chemicals on his hair, which is bad for him. He also looks ridiculous. She told him he couldn’t get his hair done but he disregarded her instruction. Byron wanted a new hairdo and he wanted Mexican style hair.

Kenny also thought the parachute game was fun and wanted to try it unless there was a serious punishment. Why was Mrs. Watson upset about the parachute game? She had lived through a fire in her own home as a little girl and didn’t want to see her family in danger of something she found so scary.

Kenny sees Rufus as his personal saver because he thinks the other kids will pick on him instead of Kenny.

The “Weird” Watsons Neighbors supposedly call the story’s family the “Weird Watsons” behind their backs. The family’s quirks, though, are not really to be disparaged.
