When taken by mouth: Ginger is LIKELY SAFE when taken appropriately. Ginger can cause mild side effects including heartburn, diarrhea, burping, and general stomach discomfort. Some women have reported more menstrual bleeding while taking ginger.
However, you might have an allergy to ginger if you experience a rash or discomfort in your mouth or stomach after drinking ginger tea. Ginger may help lower blood pressure, so you might experience lightheadedness as a side effect. Ginger also contains salicylates, the chemical in aspirin that acts as a blood thinner.
Ginger is loaded with antioxidants, compounds that prevent stress and damage to your body’s DNA. They may help your body fight off chronic diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease, and diseases of the lungs, plus promote healthy aging.
Consuming ginger ale may cause bloating, burping, and increased gassiness. These effects are due to the carbonation and are common with any carbonated beverage. Diet ginger ale contains artificial sweeteners, which may be in the form of sugar alcohols.
Ginger may ease a dry or asthmatic cough, as it has anti-inflammatory properties. It may also relieve nausea and pain. One study suggests that some anti-inflammatory compounds in ginger can relax membranes in the airways, which could reduce coughing.
2. Turmeric. Turmeric contains curcumin, a compound which may have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. It may also be beneficial for several conditions, including a dry cough.
Sleep on an incline. All the postnasal drainage and mucus you swallow during the day backs up and irritates your throat when you lay down at night. Try to defy gravity by propping yourself up on some pillows while you sleep.
How to stop coughing
This is usually from an irritation of the mucous membranes of the throat, the esophagus, or the trachea. A throat tickle is likely linked to a medical condition or something in your environment. You may experience the symptom because of extra mucous in the throat or because of an outside irritant like smoke.
What is a GERD cough? It’s a hacking cough that does not produce mucus (a dry cough). It’s also a chronic cough, meaning it has not shown improvement in eight weeks. It’s generally worse at night. Sometimes, this may be mistaken for coughs caused by other problems such as allergies or postnasal drip.
Omeprazole 40 mg o.d. seems to improve chronic cough in patients with gastrooesophageal reflux and the effect of omeprazole in ameliorating both cough and reflux symptoms continues after treatment ceases.
