Citizen Kane was first released in May of 1941. The film was directed by Orson Welles, who also starred in the film. This film is considered to be such an artistic masterpiece that many organizations, including The American Film Institute, have dubbed it the best film of all time.

1926-1934: Synchronized Sound introduced to Hollywood. Plunged the film industry into turmoil. Filmmakers were wrestling with what to do with sound. Synchronization-Hard, there were no early mechanical links for sound, it used 2 separate systems.

In February 1927, they signed the Big Five Agreement, pledging to act together in a dopting whichever sound system proved most advantageous. The two leading choices were the Western Electric sound-on-disc and the RCA sound-on-film systems. The Big Five opted for Western Electric’s system.

The first color negative films and corresponding print films were modified versions of these films. They were introduced around 1940 but only came into wide use for commercial motion picture production in the early 1950s.

How talkies changed film. Beyond revolutionizing how stories were told on screen, talkies changed the way films were produced and distributed. Since most theaters in the 1920s used live orchestras and not projected sound, they didn’t have the equipment needed to play sound films.

Silent films were responsible for the birth of continuity editing which is essential to storytelling and narrative economy. It evolves a set of principles such as the use of ellipsis, the use of diegetic or extradiegetic sound, flashback, match on action, 30-degree rule, 180-degree rule and so forth.

Movies were fun. They provided a change from the day-to-day troubles of life. They also were an important social force. Young Americans tried to copy what they saw in the movies.

The increased financial prosperity of the 1920s gave many Americans more disposable income to spend on entertaining themselves. This influx of cash, coupled with advancements in technology, led to new patterns of leisure (time spent having fun) and consumption (buying products).

The 1920’s were the source of new, popular types of mass entertainment with radios, movies, and sports heroes. In 1919, the first radio station that was commercial started and radios became a huge hit broadcasting news, entertainment, and advertisements.

The film crossed ₹520 crore (equivalent to ₹560 crore or US$78 million in 2019) in its opening weekend to be the highest-grossing film worldwide for that week. 2.0 is the second highest-grossing film in India and is the fifth highest-grossing Indian film worldwide.

According to film critic Ramesh Bala, Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Saaho has become a hit among US audience, where it grossed over $2 million so far. With this, Saaho has become Prabhas’ third film to achieve this feat, after Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion.
