Use the Home button to unlock your device or make purchases using Touch ID. Press the Home button once to go to the Home screen. Press the Home button twice to bring up the App Switcher. On iPhone X and later, press and hold the side button and one of the volume buttons to restart your iPhone.

You are yanking power away from the OS without allowing it to shutdown normally. It is a last resort measure. Just holding the top power button until asked to power off is the preferred way to remove power. You can also use those to buttons to take a screenshot of your screen, this is saved as a photo on you phone.

If all you do is press both the volume button and the power button on the iPhone and the slider is visible on the screen, nothing is disabled (yet). If you slide the slider to the off position and your phone shuts off, everything is disabled, including the express transit card functionality. Off is off.

Forced Reboot This causes you to lose unsaved data in running apps, even if those apps would normally save automatically when closed. To reset, hold both the “Sleep/Wake” button and the “Home” button simultaneously for about 10 seconds. The phone shuts off and then automatically restarts.

As verbs the difference between reboot and restart is that reboot is (computing) to cause a computer to execute its boot process, effectively resetting the computer and causing the operating system to reload, especially after a system or power failure while restart is to start again.

Reboot/restart doesn’t change things on your computer, while reset will change things in your computer. Resetting means erasing and restoring. To reset a computer is to revert it back to the status when it was first purchased.

To reset your Android phone using Recovery Mode, follow the steps below:

1. Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down for a few seconds until you see the Android logo on the screen.
2. Use the Volume Up and Volume Down keys to navigate to Recovery Mode.
3. Press the Power button.

Cause 4: Faulty battery or charging port If the iPhone still doesn’t turn on, it may have a dead battery or a bad charging port. Replace the battery with a partially charged one and see if the phone will turn on. If the phone says it is charging, then the Lightning connector works, and you likely had a bad battery.

Pressing down both volume buttons on your device for a long period can often bring up a boot menu. From there you can choose to restart your device. Your phone may use a combination of holding the volume buttons while also holding the home button, so be sure to try this as well.

Almost every Android phone comes with scheduled power on/ off feature built right into the Settings. So, if you want to turn on your phone without using the power button, head to Settings > Accessibility > Scheduled Power On/Off (settings may vary across different devices).

Perform a Hard Restart (or Hard Reboot) It’s like holding the power button down on your computer. To give this a go, press and hold the power button for at least 20 seconds. If Android isn’t responding, this will (usually) force your device to reboot manually.
