A typeface is a particular set of glyphs or sorts (an alphabet and its corresponding accessories such as numerals and punctuation) that share a common design. For example, Helvetica is a well known typeface. A font is a particular set of glyphs within a typeface.

Serif font is a sub category of typeface. If a font is serif, it has small lines or characters added to the ends of the characters to exaggerate and/or decorate the characters in their basic form. A sans-serif font is the opposite; the characters of a font are without embellishment or decor.

Serifs are semi-structural details or small decorative flourishes on the ends of some of the strokes that make up letters and symbols. Sans serif does not have these details or flourishes. An example would be the Arial font.

Typefaces are often described as being serif or sans serif (without serifs). The most common serif typeface is Times Roman. A common sans serif typeface is Helvetica.

Calibri. Having replaced Times New Roman as the default Microsoft Word font, Calibri is an excellent option for a safe, universally readable sans-serif font.

Helvetica

A holy water font or stoup is a vessel containing holy water which is generally placed near the entrance of a church. It is often placed at the base of a crucifix or religious representation.

Papyrus manages visual weight well. One of the things that makes Comic Sans a “bad” font is that it poorly manages the visual weight within each letter. This makes it impossible for Comic Sans to have an even texture when set in body copy.

The smallest font OFFERED by MS Word is 8 points. However, you can select the font size as small as 1 by typing 1 into the font size window.

Type a value larger than 72 in the Font Size control in the Font group on the Home tab of the Ribbon. This can be done in any other Font Size control (e.g., in the Format/Font dialog, the Modify Style dialog, the formatting toolbar, etc. You could click the Increase Font Size control in the same ribbon group.

The consensus among most experts is that serif fonts are easier to read in print than their rivals, sans serif fonts such as Helvetica and Arial. I think that’s probably true. You can try to convince yourself that you’re getting into the book-writing mood by trying to knock out words in something like Cochin.

Make the font size larger than 72 points

1. Select the text that you want to change.
2. Click the Format tab under Text Box Tools, type a point size in the Font Size list. . For example, type 592.
3. Press ENTER.

Go to Insert > Text Box, and then select Draw Text Box. Click or tap in the document, and drag to draw the text box the size that you want. To add text to a text box, select inside the text box, and then type or paste text.

2. Tap Accessibility, then tap Font size.
3. Use the slider to choose your font size.

Size. Choose a font that’s at least 16 pixels, or 12 points. If many of your users are older adults, consider using an even larger font size—19 pixels or 14 points. A small font size is more difficult to read, especially for users with limited literacy skills and older adults.

So something like Sitka Small will be very readable at small text sizes. Or Verdana, which while designed for low resolution screens, works very well for readability at tiny sizes. You can also look at fonts like Bell Centennial which was designed for phone books (bad printing, bad paper, tiny size, legible).
