The Difference A human services professional focuses on the bigger picture. Social workers often work directly with clients to carry out social programs. As a human services worker, you may work as an administrator in an advocacy organization, which help support underserved communities.
The highest-paying careers in the human service category belonged to educational, guidance, school and vocational counselors with a mean $27.18 per hour or $56,540 per year for almost 245,000 individuals. They help students to choose educational or career programs.
As you can deduce from comparing these figures, human services is a field in which it’s well worth earning at least a bachelor’s degree. Your earning potential as a social worker or community services manager is significantly higher than your salary as a human services assistant would be.
Qualifications. To practice social work, you must have completed a social work degree including field placements. There are also positions in the human services sector that might be open to social workers but don’t necessarily need to be filled by social workers.
You can build a career as an aged care worker, community development officer, community educator, crisis intervention worker, case worker, case manager or care coordinator.
