Climax. The assassin and his cronies, the Jacks of All Trade, chase Bod and Scarlett into the graveyard. One by one, Bod outwits them and uses his privileges of the graveyard to trap them. In a final showdown, he tricks Jack Frost in the barrow beneath the Frobisher mausoleum so that the Sleer drag him away forever.

Danse Macabre is a traditional event in the Old Town. It consists of the living and the dead dancing the Macabray. The mayor or the mayoress should pick flowers from the Graveyard and fill the four wicker baskets. Everyone stops dancing at the end and the Living will have no idea what happened.

The Graveyard Book ends when Bod is about fifteen years old. We see him gradually losing his Freedom of the Graveyard powers (must be puberty), and then leaving the graveyard by himself with money, a passport, and big, big dreams.

The narrator of The Graveyard Book is a third-person omniscient narrator. The narration mainly follows Bod throughout the novel.

The story takes place in the United Kingdom. The story probably takes place in the 21st century. The reason for that is that phones and computers are mentioned by a teacher in Bod’s school (p. 181/182).

Old Town

The Graveyard book teaches an important lesson to Bod that is transferred to the audience. A theme given throughout this book is listening to the teachings and advice of others. When Bod is placed in the hands of Miss Lupescu he rejects her lessons.

The Lady on the Grey is another super-mysterious figure. She might be a personification of death – which means she’s death in human form, like a prettier version of the Grim Reaper. She says that everybody – and that means you, too – will eventually get to ride her white horse (called a “grey”).

Four-year-old Bod learns to read and write. He also makes a new friend, Scarlett Amber Perkins. When Miss Lupescu saves him from becoming ghoul-meat, Bod learns to love and appreciate her. When Bod is about eight years old, he meets Liza Hempstock, a witch who’s buried on the borders of the graveyard.

How Nobody Came to the Graveyard. Fasten your seatbelts, folks – The Graveyard Book begins with a sharp knife. A man named Jack has the knife in his hand as he creeps into a house, leaving the front door slightly open. The only person still alive in the house is a baby.

How did he track his prey? He was hired to kill the family in that house. The man Jack used his heightened 5 senses to track down his prey.

How did the ghouls’ behavior towards Bod change once he entered the kingdom? Instead of being friends with him, they started to be mean and were roughhousing him, by playing catch with him as the ball. Bod could also tell that the wonderful things they were talking about a couple minutes ago were all lies.
