Cables aren’t the most exciting of topics but I can spruce this review up for two reasons.
Firstly I’m testing my new spotlight and doesn’t it look funky?
Secondly, and more importantly this micro USB cable comes with a literal twist that manages to turn an existing product into something an Apple lightning cable can do, flip.
That’s right the Winnergear MicFlip is a fully reversible Micro USB cable that claims not to care which way it’s plugged into a device.
It adds three premium build qualities too that include tangle free braided cabling, an aluminium shell and gold coating to prevent corrosion.
But obviously the star of the show is that flippable cable.
On the one side we have a regular male USB socket that’s not reversible but on the micro end of the cable we have a micro usb socket that’s shaped like an elongated hexagon.
On a side by side comparison the contrast between the MicFlip cable and a regular micro USB cable is striking.
But the proof you need is right here. It doesn’t matter which way you slot the cable into your device. Just like an iPhone or an iPad you can now plug your Android device in whichever way you want.
Just be aware there is a little learning curve to contend with. The MicFlip does needs a firm push to make sure it clicks into place.
The cable is a meter in length and costs a cent under $20 so you are paying somewhat of premium for what is ultimately a cable that’s slightly more convenient.
But that’s not the major issue with this cable. The biggest problem is Winnergear have improved upon an existing technology that’s dying. Micro USB will be replaced by USB type C. A socket that’s already appearing in new smartphones such as the Nexus line and is fully reversible anyway.
Micro USB will be around for some time to come, in older cheaper devices and with that you’re not likely to buy a premium, expensive cable like this.
The Winnergear MicFlip Cable is available right now and I’ll be giving away a few of these cables in a future video. So stay tuned and enjoy the rest of your tech day
