A proper desk setup includes setting things up ergonomically. Set up your desk with your computer screen about an arms length away, just enough where you can touch the screen with your fingertips.
Next you want to make sure the computer screen is about eye level or slightly below eye level by about 10-15 degrees.
You will also want to adjust the tilt of the screen to slightly face upward towards your eyes.
With just these few adjustments your ergonomic desk setup should help with reducing eye strain.
More Tips for eyestrain!
1. Decrease the brightness of the screen (most people find less bright screens to be more comfortable)
2. Sit in a well lit room or have your desk area well lit with a desk lamp or a backlight.
(this will constrict your pupils and help improve your ability to stay focused without having to re-adjust your eye muscles as much)
3. Adjust the contrast settings to find what is comfortable for you
4. Increase the font size to make reading small text easier.
(hold down control/command buttons and adjust with either the plus/minus buttons or scroll with the mouse wheel)
5. Take frequent breaks! Try to look away from the computer screen at a distant object ever 10-20 minutes.
