I had recently updated my #raspberrypi and tried to log in using the Windows Remote Desktop Connection. It would accept the username and password but then show a blue screen. After about 10 seconds, I would get a connection timeout error. The reason why is because you can’t remote in using the /”pi/” root user name. You have to create a new user name.

So, connect your pi to a monitor and a keyboard. Open a terminal, and then use sudo adduser new-username. You’ll be asked to create a password.
