Step 1 – download this word template.
Step 2 – open the word template.
Step 3 – watch the video.
Step 4 – tailor the template to your own needs and your own printer.
I made this template and tailored it to my printer at the time, a Canon mg6220. !!!!—A rear tray on the printer is needed for this method—!!!! A rear tray is needed because my printer couldn’t duplex print 3×5/” cards. The template is made to print on 3×5/” blank note cards with no lines. You can pick up the notecards at Staples.
The basic idea of how this template works is that every odd numbered page is the front of the note card. Each even numbered pages is the back of the note card. So page 1 is the front of the note card. Page 2 is the back of the note card. Page 3 is the front of the next note card. Page 4 is the back of that note card. Place a stack of blank note cards in the rear tray of your printer. Then in print settings, print all of the odd numbered /”pages./” This will print all the /”fronts/” of the note cards. Once all the /”fronts/” are printed, you take the entire stack and flip the stack around. Place it back in the rear tray and then print out the even numbered pages. That will print all the /”backs/” of the note card. If you do it right, everything should line up, you should have a note card with printed front and back.
Print in medium gray. Black is somewhat see through depending on the thickness of your card. Obviously, there are hundreds of printers out there. The template has no restriction and can be edited and modified in Microsoft Word. If you want to tailor it to another size like 5×7/” cards, adjust the size of the layout. If you want to change the margins, go for it. You’re own your own to tailor the template to your own needs.
FAQ
Q. How do I get my Word document to look like that?
A. You don’t. I made the template already. Go download my template.
Q. I don’t see the /”cards/” side by side like the video.
A. Click on View then /”Multiple Pages./” Then at the bottom right of the page, you’ll see a zoom bar. Zoom out to fit both pages to screen.
Q. Can you should us how you do it?
A. That was the original plan after I made this video. However, I never got around to it. Additionally, it is now 7 years later, my printer is gone, and I am no longer in school. I really have no reason to develop this video and template further. You’ll just have to follow the video and troubleshoot on your own.
Q. Mine is not printing out correctly or not lining up.
A. Check your print settings and paper. Sometimes the printer will not feed properly. For example, it’ll feed two cards instead of one then everything gets thrown off. That’s why I recommend you monitor the printing. Additionally, if you set your printing to /”print last page first/” then it might throw off the printing. Lastly, set your print setting to the correct landscape/portrait mode. It should require landscape mode but if it doesn’t print correctly then try portrait mode.
