Video Description

Google is experimenting with adding a new button to the toolbar of its Chrome browser for Android. Right now we have the address bar at the top of the browser window, and it’s accompanied by the tab grid button, and the 3-dot menu icon. Tapping the Tab Grid button brings up the tab switcher for Chrome and tapping the 3-dot menu icon brings up the overflow menu that we’re familiar with.
But in the recent update, the company has added in a hidden feature that will add a 3rd button to this toolbar in Chrome for Android.
To enable this feature, we first need to bring up the hidden chrome://flags page. From here, let’s search for the word /”adaptive/” in order to filter out most of the other feature here. Here, we want to focus on the new Chrome experiments feature labeled /”Adaptive Button in Top Toolbar Customization/”
By default, this feature is set to disabled, but we manually change this and then relaunch the browser when prompted.
So before, we only had these two buttons up here at the top near the address bar. . .but now there is three. And this third button can either be dynamic and change depending on what you’re looking at. . .or it can be set to a specific command that Google has set up.
The /”Based on Your Usage/” option is the default setting for this new Chrome feature called Toolbar Shortcut. Sometimes it can be a new tab button, sometimes it can be a share button, and sometimes it can be a voice search button.
Share and New Tab functionality has been present in the overflow menu of the Chrome browser for a while now, and this button can make it that much quicker to access. And the same can be said with the Voice Search button which could be found by tapping on the address bar of the Chrome toolbar.
But with this new feature, we can get one of these buttons right next to the address bar at all times.
