Microsoft Office – Customizing the Ribbon is a new windows feature added in Microsoft Office version 2010. You can add new tabs, add new groups to existing tabs, re-sequence groups within a tab; remove groups from existing tabs; and deactivate tabs.

The focus of this video, Microsoft Office – Customizing the Ribbon, is on how to add new groups and new tabs to your various ribbons. Specifically, I will be customizing the Home tab ribbon in Microsoft Word, to which I will be adding a new file management group, and in this group I will include all of the file management commands I most frequently use. I will also be showing you how to add a new tab in Word.

Microsoft Office – Customizing the Ribbon is an awesome time-saving feature. By adding commands, such as the File tab commands to the Home tab, eliminates the need to constantly access other tabs and allows you to therefore leave the focus on the Home tab. Any commands, found on other tabs, which I use frequently, all get added to my Home tab. This reduces the number of clicks necessary to use these commands which is indeed a big time saver!

Please note, customizing the Microsoft Word Home tab will not affect the Home tab in other Microsoft applications, such as Excel or PowerPoint. This is true for all the tabs.
