The indefinite pronoun (see above) one has its own reflexive form (“One must have faith in oneself.”), but the other indefinite pronouns use either himself or themselves as reflexives.

An indefinite pronoun does not refer to any specific person, thing or amount. It is vague and “not definite”. Some typical indefinite pronouns are: all, another, any, anybody/anyone, anything, each, everybody/everyone, everything, few, many, nobody, none, one, several, some, somebody/someone.

Ze is pronounced like “zee” can also be spelled zie or xe, and replaces she/he/they. Hir is pronounced like “here” and replaces her/hers/him/his/they/theirs.

“She / Her / Hers” is a set of gender-specific pronouns typically used to refer to women or girls. Some nonbinary folks, as well as genderfluid or genderqueer folks, may also use the “She / Her / Hers” pronouns.

Never use she to refer to a country. You’ll sound as if you either don’t know English or last studied it in 1950.

Old English texts also had more evidence of grammatical gender, like referring to a shield as “she.” In Latin, “ship” means “navis,” which is a feminine word. So, making boats female and calling them “she” is an ancient custom of giving genders to inanimate objects.

“She” is the feminine third-person, singular personal pronoun (subjective case) in Modern English. In 1999, the American Dialect Society chose “she” as the word of the past millennium.

Another tradition is to consider ships as female, referring to them as ‘she’. Although it may sound strange referring to an inanimate object as ‘she’, this tradition relates to the idea of a female figure such as a mother or goddess guiding and protecting a ship and crew.

A mast is a pole that rises vertically from a ship and supports the sails. Really big sailboats have more than one mast. A mast is also another name for flagpole. The mast has an important job — to support the sails, which allows the wind to propel the ship.

Researchers at Leiden University in The Netherlands have built what they believe to be the world’s smallest vessel. The unnamed boat was created with a micro-3D printer, and it measures all of 30 micrometers in length (about 1/1000th of an inch). This is about one third the width of a single human hair.

The World Shipping Council (WSC) has released their 2020 update and on average 1,382 containers are lost at sea every year, but we can clearly see a downward trend and in the 2017-2019 period 779 containers were lost every year.
