Andesite is a volcanic rock similar to basalt only lighter in color and containing less iron and magnesium than basalt. Often containing phenocrysts (large conspicuous crystals), Andesite is a host rock for Andesine, a precious gemstone. A majority of the Earth’s continental crust is composed of andesitic rocks.

Basalt is a common extrusive igneous rock formed by the rapid cooling of basaltic lava exposed at or very near the surface of Earth. Andesite is a dark, fine-grained, brown or greyish intermediate volcanic rock which is a commonly found in lava. These rocks are composed of many distinct minerals.

Mineral Composition Andesite is rich in plagioclase feldspar and amphibole minerals. Quartz and pyroxene minerals may be absent or present in small quantities. Small amounts of mica will be present as biotite or muscovite.

Andesite is the volcanic equivalent of diorite. It consists of the plagioclase feldspar minerals andesine and oligoclase, together with one or more dark, ferromagnesian minerals such as pyroxene and biotite. Major minerals of Andesite: Plagioclase, hornblende, almandine.

It is fairly strong, which allows it to be used in road and railway construction, and as fill gravel. The grayish colored rocks seen between railway ties are often andesite or its close relative, basalt. Perhaps the most interesting use of andesite is as proof of volcanic activity on Mars.

Smooth stone can only be gotten by using the furnace

1. Step 1: Get Cobblestone.
2. Step 2: Get Coal.
3. Step 3: Build the Furnance.
4. Step 4: Use Furnace to Turn Cobblestone into Stone.
5. Step 5: Use Furnace Again to Turn Stone into Smooth Stone.

In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make polished diorite, place 4 diorite in the 3×3 crafting grid. When making polished diorite, it is important that the blocks of diorite are placed in the exact pattern as the image below.
