Installing Windows 10 or 11 on a Dell Chromebook 11 3180 can be a bit tricky, but it is possible. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

Note: This guide assumes that you have a USB drive with the Windows 10 or 11 installation files, and that you have access to a separate Windows computer to create the USB drive.

First, you need to enable Developer Mode on your Dell Chromebook 11 3180. To do this, turn off your Chromebook and then turn it back on while holding down the Esc and Refresh keys. When you see the message /”Chrome OS is missing or damaged,/” press Ctrl + D. You will see a prompt asking you to confirm that you want to enable Developer Mode. Press Enter to confirm.

Your Chromebook will now reboot and wipe all of your personal data. This is normal and necessary to enable Developer Mode. After the wipe, your Chromebook will reboot again and show the /”Welcome!/” screen.

Set up your Chromebook as normal, and connect to Wi-Fi.

Once you are at the Chrome OS desktop, press Ctrl + Alt + T to open a crosh terminal.

Type the following command to disable the hardware write protection on your Chromebook:

shell sudo /usr/share/vboot/bin/make_dev_ssd.sh –remove_rootfs_verification –partitions 2

Your Chromebook will now reboot again. After the reboot, press Ctrl + Alt + T to open the crosh terminal again.

Type the following command to open a new shell as root:

shell sudo -s

Insert your USB drive with the Windows 10 or 11 installation files into your Chromebook.

Type the following command to list the available disks:

fdisk -l

Note the device name of your USB drive (e.g. /dev/sdb).

Type the following command to write the Windows image to the USB drive:

dd if=/path/to/windows.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M && sync

Replace /path/to/windows.iso with the path to your Windows 10 or 11 installation ISO file, and replace /dev/sdb with the device name of your USB drive.

Wait for the dd command to complete. This may take some time, depending on the speed of your USB drive.
When the dd command is finished, type the following command to exit the root shell:
exit
Remove your USB drive from your Chromebook.
Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open the crosh terminal again.
Type the following command to reboot your Chromebook:
shell sudo reboot
After your Chromebook reboots, press Esc when you see the /”OS Verification is OFF/” screen.
Press Ctrl + L to boot from the USB drive.
Follow the prompts to install Windows 10 or 11 on your Dell Chromebook 11 3180.
Note: You may need to disable the /”Write Protect Screw/” on your Chromebook’s motherboard to boot from the USB drive.
