Most operating systems have a built-in task manager or resource monitor that lets you see all active processes and programs running on your computer. The Chrome web browser also has one that helps you end troublesome tabs and extensions.
To open Chrome’s Task Manager, click the “More” button (three dots), hover over “More Tools,” and then click on “Task Manager.” Alternatively, press Shift+Esc on Windows or Search+Esc on Chrome OS to open Task Manager.
Just like your Windows machine, Google’s Chrome has a built-in task manager. The feature gives you a bird’s eye view of thee browser, letting you see know how much of you computer’s memory the a site is using, its CPU usage and network activity.
If your computer feels like it’s hit a brick wall after opening a particular web page, you can turn to the task manager to see if the site is hogging your system’s resources. You can also use the task manager to quickly close browser tabs that have stopped working or otherwise crashed.
One of the best under-the-hood aspects of Google Chrome is its multiprocessor architecture, which allows tabs to run as separate processes. These processes are independent of the main thread, so a crashed or hung webpage doesn’t result in the entire browser shutting down. Occasionally, you may notice Chrome lagging or acting strangely, and you don’t know which tab is the culprit, or a webpage may freeze. This is where the Chrome Task
Manager comes in handy.
