ABOUT THIS Lesson
HOW TO USE EXCEL RELATIVE AND ABSOLUTE REFERENCES BY EXCEL IN A MINUTE
Excel’s Relative and Absolute References.
Welcome to Excel in a Minute!
Most of you have probably seen the dollar sign in some Excel formulas and wondered what this is for. This sign is very important on Excel formulas as this prompts Excel whether to change the cell reference in the formula when you move or copy it to another cell.
There are two main classifications of cell references in Excel. The relative references and the absolute references.
A relative reference is a cell reference without the dollar sign before the row and column coordinates. When you move or copy a formula containing a relative reference to another cell, the reference changes based on the position of the new cell in terms of row and column.
For example, using this data, you want to get the total sales for each product by multiplying the price for each and the quantities sold.
