Is Microsoft Edge running in the background even after you’ve closed it? This can be frustrating, especially since it uses up your RAM and data. In this video, I’ll show you exactly how to stop Edge from running behind the scenes and explain why it still happens sometimes.
What You’ll Learn:
How to disable Edge’s background processes
Why Edge continues running even after closing it
How Windows features like Copilot and Widgets trigger Edge to stay open
Step-by-step guide to stop Edge from using up resources
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Open Microsoft Edge and click the three dots in the top-right corner.
Go to Settings System and Performance.
Look for the setting /”Continue running background apps when Microsoft Edge is closed/” and turn it off.
Optionally, disable Startup Boost and Hardware Acceleration (if you don’t need them for gaming or heavy work).
Keep in mind: Edge may still open if features like Widgets or Copilot are triggered. Close Edge from the Task Manager if you’ve interacted with these features.
Tip: If you want to stop Edge from automatically running, just avoid using features like Widgets or Copilot. If you accidentally trigger them, end the task in Task Manager to stop Edge from running.
