Theater-quality movies can be viewed at home with the crystal clear Blu-ray technology. Following these steps, you now can also experience Blu-ray quality on your home PC.

Step 1: Purchase a Blu-ray drive
Purchase a Blu-ray drive if your computer does not already have one. You cannot play Blu-Ray discs without this component.

Step 2: Purchase software
Purchase software that allows you to play your Blu-ray discs, as well as your HD DVDs.

Step 3: Check your hardware
Check your computer’s hardware: its processor, RAM, and graphics card. Ensure it is capable of handling Blu-ray discs. Your graphics card must support HDCP and an HDCP monitor.

Tip
Some Blu-ray software can check your computer’s hardware to see if it is capable of playing Blu-ray discs. The tool advises you on what hardware you need to upgrade.

Step 4: Troubleshoot
Troubleshoot problems in Windows 7 by going into your Control Panel and typing Troubleshooter. Click View all, and then click Playing and Burning CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray Discs. This identifies any glitches you may encounter so you can get on with watching your theater-quality movies on your home PC.

Did You Know?
The reason for the name Blu-ray has to do with the actual technology. Optical disc technologies like DVD use a red laser to read data, but Blu-ray uses a blue-violet laser.
