In this video, I demonstrate two methods for creating an organisation chart in Excel.

The first method uses Excel’s in-built SmartArt functionality. The key to success is in the preparation of your data. I demonstrate how to sort your records in the most efficient way for use within the SmartArt Tool.

I also demonstrate how to display name and job title on separate lines within the chart shapes. This can be achieved by concatenation the name and job title fields with the CHAR(10) character, which forces a line break. The video features the formula that will achieve this for you.

The second method will only work with Excel 365 and it uses a Visio data visualisation add-in. I demonstrate how to install the add-in and use your own data to populate the organisation chart. The great thing about this method, is that the organisation chart is based on an Excel table, which makes it dynamic. You only need to add new records to the table for the organisation chart to be updated.
