Super old PCs with low RAM (aka 2GB, 4GB, 8GB) and a spinning hard drive could benefit from a much faster USB storage (compared to the spinning hard drive) to store the swap file.
This feature should no longer exist, as RAM os super cheap nowadays. But there are still those who could use this feature. If you’re one of those people, who have a fast USB thumb drive lying around, you might see a tangible performance boost (if your drive is supported), in lieu of buying more RAM.
Remember, if you have the money for a USB drive and for RAM, you’re ALWAYS better off adding more RAM than doing this. Even if your RAM is only in a single channel mode.
