A step-by-step tutorial on how to disable chat in Microsoft Teams meeting. This lets the Teams meeting organizer disable chat in the meeting in real-time, and re-enable. It allow allows to disable chat before the meeting starts, or even disable the chat after the meeting ends. Disable Chat in Teams meetings has just started . The Disable Chat in MS Teams meetings has just started rolling out and should be fully rolled out within a few weeks.

NOTE: This is NOT available in Channel meetings because Channel meetings already have built-in chat moderation and that still works as it always has. This also will work fine for regular /”meet Not/” meetings.

If the school/company has a meeting policy where meeting chat is disabled, then the case in Breakout Rooms also by default. If not the Educator/meeting organizer will need to enter every breakout room and change the meeting options manually. Breakout rooms don’t inherit settings from main meeting.

If you use Channel meetings, you can still go to the same /”Channel Moderation/” you’ve used in the past to enable/disable chat. This new feature doesn’t change how channel meetings have always worked for disabling chat.
