Is My Windows Version 32-bit or 64-bit?

The processor also has to support 64bit computation. A 64-bit Windows can’t be installed onto a PC which uses a 32-bit processor.

Older processors (also called CPU) are 32-bit capable only, newer ones are both 32-bit and 64-bit capable.

64-bit software cannot be run on an older 32-bit CPU, but 64-bit CPUs can run both 32-bit and 64-bit software.

If the CPU is 64-bit capable, but the Operating System (ex: Windows 7) is only 32-bit, than a 64-bit software still won’t run. All 3 components (CPU, OS, software) must be 64-bit in order to work.
