In this quick tech how to video, I’m going to show you how to change the background and color theme appearance of Microsoft Outlook on a Windows PC.
Outlook for Windows is pretty basic, and defaults to the standard light mode. You can change it up a bit, by changing the background at the top, and setting the colors to be a little easier on the eyes.
To do this, once in Outlook, select File at the top left, and then choose Options at the bottom.
Inside the Outlook Options, stay in General, and in the main window, you’ll see personalize your copy of Microsoft Office.
First, we’ll look at Office Background. Now changing this inside of Outlook won’t do much. You may actually have already changed this and not noticed anything at all. But if we change it to something like geometry and hit OK, you can see that the top right of our window here has changed to the new background.
Now to change the color theme, head back into the Outlook Options, and we’ll look at Office Theme. Here we have a few options. Colorful doesn’t change the entire windows color but will keep that bar at the top in the standard Office colors. In Outlook’s case, it will appear blue.
The next two are dark grey and black. These options allow you to choose a degree of a dark theme. You can switch between the two and choose your preference.
You can also take any color out but keep with the light theme by choosing White.
And finally, you can have Office follow your systems theme by choosing use system setting.
Once you’ve made your choices, hit Ok and you can go back to using Outlook.
And that’s how you change your appearance and theme of Microsoft Outlook for Windows.
