How To Browse Netflix Hidden Genres

In this quick tech how to video, I’m going to show you how you can browse Netflix by hidden genre categories by using the secret genre codes.

When you’re endlessly searching through Netflix trying to find something to watch, and you’re surprised that the category you’re scrolling through is so short and figured there’d be more, you’d be right. But Netflix only shows you the top results that are recommended for you. Most people don’t know though that there is a way to search an entire genres catalog.

At this time, this is only possible on the desktop or web browser version of Netflix, but you could use this to load up your Watchlist. This is because you have to manually enter in a URL that filters out Netflix by individual genres and sub-genres.

Start by heading to Netflix.com and making sure that you’re logged into your Account.

I’ll post the list of genres and sub-genres here on the video so that if you want to go check one out, you can make a note of the one that you want to see and go to it. I’ll also put a list in the description below so you can copy and paste if you want to do that.

Let’s use one of my favorite sub-genres, Supernatural Horror Movies, as an example. Looking through the list we see that the code for that is 42023.

Now up in the address bar, type Netflix.com/browse/genre/42023 and hit enter.

On the next screen choose whose profile is watching.

You’ll then be taken to the Supernatural Horror Movies category page, where you can browse all the content in that sub-genre.

And if I want to back up to all Horror movies, I can see that the code for that entire genre is 8711, and I can search the same as before, but replace the code with 8711.

You can then go ahead and search through Netflix a lot more focused now, even if it is just more endless scrolling to fall asleep to.

And that’s how you use the specific genres category codes inside of Netflix.
