You can add footnotes in Word 2019 (Microsoft Office 365), Word 2016, Word 2013, Word 2010 and Word 2007, after watching this video.

Follow the below steps to add footnotes in Microsoft Word automatically:

Step 1. In Microsoft Word document, go to REFERENCES tab and click on Insert Footnote under Footnotes group to add footnotes quickly. Click on the Footnotes dialog box launcher to have more control on adding the footnotes.
Step 2: In Footnotes dialog box, select the location as Bottom of Text or Below Text as per your requirement.
Step 3: In Footnotes layout, select the Columns type (for e.g., Match Selection Layout, 1 Column, 2 Columns etc.).
Step 4: Under Format, select number format, custom mark, symbol, start at and numbering based on your requirement.
Step 5: Under Apply changes, select whether you want to apply changes to whole document or any other if available based on your word document.
Step 6: At the end, Click on INSERT to insert the footnote.
