If you want a quick way to open your programs or apps, you can add a right click shortcut to your Windows 10 or Windows 11 right click context menu so you can open them without having to find their shortcut on the desktop or Start menu. You can add these shortcuts for Windows apps and non-Windows apps.

Here is an example of how to add the calculator app and you can adjust the instructions as needed for other apps.

Open the registry editor (regedit) and navigate to

Computer//HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT//Directory//Background//shell

Right click on shell and choose New – Key and give it the name of your program such as Calculator.

Double click on the Default value and enter &Calculator.

Right click on the new Calculator key and choose New – Key and name it command.

Double click on Default and enter calc.exe for the value.
