The 1500 metres at the Summer Olympics has been contested since the first edition of the multi-sport event. The men’s 1500 m has been present on the Olympic athletics programme since 1896.

She was awarded an MBE for services to the British Army in 1998. In 2018, Dame Kelly was appointed Honorary Colonel of the Royal Armoured Corps, marking her return to the Army. Approved by Her Majesty the Queen, the accolade makes her the only Colonel Dame in the World.

More recently, Dame Kelly has fought hard to recover from COVID-19. This left even her, a former elite athlete still in amazing shape, dizzy, drained and lethargic. Happily, she is now well on the road to recovery. She recently supported fitness coach Joe Wicks in his 24-hour workout for charity Children in Need.

Dame Kelly Holmes DBE (born 19 April 1970) is a retired British middle distance athlete. Holmes specialised in the 800 metres and 1,500 metres events and won a gold medal for both distances at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

While the word “disorder” is a medical term, the word “disability” is a legal term that appears in the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (“IDEA”) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Mental illness is not by itself a disability. However, there is a class of mental health disabilities called psychiatric disabilities….These include:

• Asperger’s Syndrome.
• Autism.
• Bipolar Disorder.
• Depression.
• Drug addiction.

Bipolar disorder is considered a disability under the ADA, just like blindness or multiple sclerosis. You may also qualify for Social Security benefits if you can’t work.

Anxiety disorders involving phobias, panic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and generalized anxiety can qualify for Social Security disability benefits if they are well documented and severely debilitating.

The Americans with Disabilities Acts (ADA) protects employees from discrimination based on a disability—including mental illnesses like depression or anxiety.
