Originally Twix King Size. An 85 g (3.0 oz) bar introduced on top of the standard 58 g (2.0 oz) bar. This bar was also later introduced in Europe and the US. A standard 62 g (2.2 oz) ‘Bigger Bar’ replaced the 58 g (2.0 oz) bar between 1996 and 1999.

The product originated in the UK in 1967, and early ad campaigns in Britain and the U.S. emphasized the word “mix,” so it might be that Twix is a portmanteau of “twin” and “mix” or “twin” and “stix,” referring to its pair of bars and mixture of ingredients.

The huge bar measures 25cm (9.8 inches) long, 6.5cm (2.6 inches) wide, and 4.5cm (1.8 inches) high.

Ingredients: Milk chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, chocolate, skim milk, lactose, milkfat, soy lecithin, pgpr, artificial flavors), sugar, hydrogenated palm kernel oil and/or palm oil, enriched wheat flour (wheatflour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), corn syrup, skim milk, dextrose.

Left vs Right Twix In the right Twix factory, caramel flows on the cookie, while in the left Twix factory, caramel cascades onto the cookie. There’s a distinct difference in the coating process. Meanwhile, the Right Twix is cloaked in chocolate with cascaded caramel that makes it taste sweeter and also crunchy.

Twix isn’t salty enough but is still one of the better candy bars due to the crunch of its bottom cookie layer. Why more candy bars don’t add cookies is a mystery to me: a crisp, crumbly cookie is a perfect foil to sticky caramel.

The Twix bar is vegetarian, but not vegan. It contains a number of animal-derived products, most being milk-based. So, you can consume the bars if you’re a lacto-vegetarian, because they don’t contain egg.

The Milky Way bar’s North American variant is made of nougat topped with caramel and covered with milk chocolate. The chocolate for the chocolate coating was supplied by Hershey’s.

Their new FAQ states, in question 2, that “Yes, this announcement means that favourite products – Mars bars, Snickers bars, Galaxy, and Maltesers will once again be suitable for vegetarians.” But previous to their announcement that they were stopping everything being vegetarian, it’s not true that all their Mars bars …

Hoax Slayer published a clarification from the company, insisting that Mars products, including Snickers and Bounty, were gelatin-free but not egg-free, and that the “the red dot that may appear on some of our packaging is a legal requirement for the Indian Market”.

The Snickers Bar, despite its simple-seeming, delightful blend of chocolate, nougat, caramel and peanuts, is not a vegan food. The candy bar, which debuted in 1930, isn’t as simple as chocolate and peanuts.

More than half guessed a pint of the white stuff cost 30p in 1990 (45p in Tesco today), a Mars bar was only 15p in 1980 (around 60p now) and a Freddo was its rightful price of 10p in 2006. (A chocolate frog is now 20p.
