Snowflake obsidian is a type of black obsidian with white or grayish spots. These spots are called spherulites, and they are composed of needle-shaped cristobalite, a type of quartz. Snowflake Obsidian is usually black in color, with white patches called Phenocryst. It resembles snowflakes, hence the name.

How Are They Formed? Granite forms when melted rock cools and hardens. Layers of small particles created this rock commonly known as coal. Intense heat and pressure caused this rock, called marble, to form.

Process of Metamorphism: The process of metamorphism does not melt the rocks, but instead transforms them into denser, more compact rocks. New minerals are created either by rearrangement of mineral components or by reactions with fluids that enter the rocks.
