1. Create at least a 2×2 Infinite Water Pool with your 2 buckets of water.
2. Set up the Crafting Table nearby.
3. Use one bucket to scoop up lava first.
4. Use the other bucket to scoop up water.
5. Use Crafting Table to make obsidian.
6. Repeat process.

Whatever the case is, the best thing to do in this situation is to get a diamond pickaxe. In fact, using a diamond pickaxe is the only way to obtain obsidian after mining it, as using any other tool will only break the block without dropping it as an item.

Remember, only stationary (not flowing) lava will turn into obsidian. This means you will need one bucket of lava for every block of obsidian you want to make. Remember, without a diamond pickaxe you cannot mine the obsidian without destroying it.
