DNS is awesome! But what do you do when the resource isn’t registered? Also, how can you use host files to block unwanted sites? Doug explains all!

The Domain Name System is used to locate resources in your network and on the Internet. DNS matches the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) to the IP address. But if the record isn’t found, you could be out of luck.

The Hosts file is a text file that allows you to manually match a name to an IP address. In this video, Senior Technical Instructor Doug Bassett explains how to use the Hosts file to replace DNS for name resolution for /”lost/” records. He also explains how you can use the Hosts file to block access to unwanted websites.

This is an example of the real-world, online HD certification training done at StormWind.com.
