Sofia Carson, who starred in Disney’s hit Descendants, will topline A Cinderella Story: If The Shoe Fits, the latest installment of Warner Bros. hit YA franchise being made by the home entertainment division.
Jennifer Tilly (Bullets Over Broadway) is on board as the cruel stepmother Divine, while Thomas Law (EastEnders) will play The Prince.
This is the fourth film in the series produced by Dylan Sellers (St. Vincent). Other titles include A Cinderella Story, Another Cinderella Story and A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song.
Michelle Johnston, who choreographed and co-produced the previous installments, is making her directorial debut with the latest feature, which is now shooting in Cape Town, South Africa.
Elena Song will write the script, which will feature original songs by the Math Club, which has worked on the soundtracks for Empire and Pitch Perfect 2.
In a classic dual-identities tale, the modern musical fairy tale sees Carson as Tessa Golden, who is forced to go on a vacation with her stepmother and her two stepsisters. But once at the posh resort, she realizes she is there only to serve the stepsisters as they compete for the lead roles in a Cinderella musical with an infamous pop star (Law). A friendship with a makeup artist allows Tessa to take on a different identity so she too can audition. But the demands of her stepfamily, the pop star and the show may be too much to juggle.
Carson played Evie, the daughter of the wicked witch of Snow White fame, in Disney Channel’s hit movie and new franchise. She will next appear in the channel’s remake of 1987 movie Adventures in Babysitting.
