If you’ve just built yourself a shiny new PC and everything went smoothly but then you plugged your monitor in only to find you’re now getting a /”no display detected/” warning that can be a real bummer. Not to worry as there are a couple of simple things you can do to troubleshoot. Not saying this will solve every problem obviously, but one thing I’ve found when trying to fix no display detected errors is that there are some really easy fixes and these are the ones to start with.

I’d recommend trying an HDMI cable if you aren’t already. Weirdly I’ve found in many instances where I’ve had problems with no display being detected, it’s often resolved by using an HDMI instead of DisplayPort. Which is weird.

If you’ve connected an HDMI cable to your monitor and graphics card but it’s not working still, try instead connecting it directly to your motherboard. It might be there’s an issue with your graphics card drivers and doing this can help get into Windows and then once you’re there you can install your GPU drivers. I’d recommend a /”clean/” install of the latest drivers to troubleshoot any problems.

Once that’s done, unplug the HDMI cable from your motherboard and plug it back into your GPU and you should then find you get the display working nicely.

Other things to do if you’re getting errors with /”no display detected/”:
– Ensure all your cables are connected properly (i.e. that the GPU power cables are fully connected)
– Look for any warning lights or error codes on your motherboard and check your motherboard manual for what they mean
– Check that the right source is selected on your monitor (i.e. HDMI for an HDMI cable and Display Port for DP cables)
