Welcome to my #shorts video where we’ll be discussing why the SUM function may not be appearing in the status bar at the bottom of your Excel spreadsheet. As an Excel expert, I’ve encountered this issue many times and I’m here to share some possible reasons and solutions with you.
Firstly, if you only have one number selected in your spreadsheet, the status bar will only display a count and not a sum. This is because the statistics function is not applicable to just one number. To fix this, simply select multiple numbers or cells and the sum will appear in the status bar.
Another common reason for the SUM function not appearing is when you have selected cells that contain text instead of numbers. In this case, the status bar will only show a count and not a sum. To resolve this, go to the little dropdown menu in the status bar and select /”Convert to number/”. This will convert all the selected cells to numbers and the sum will appear.
If you have one or more cells in the middle of your spreadsheet that contain an error, the status bar will only show a count and not a sum. To locate the error, hold down the shift key and press the page down button until the sum disappears. Then, press the up arrow until you find the cell with the error. Once you fix the error, the sum will reappear in the status bar.
It’s also possible that the SUM function has been turned off by someone. To check this, right click on the status bar and make sure the /”Sum/” option is selected. It’s also possible that the entire status bar has been hidden using the shortcut Control-Shift-F1. If this is the case, simply press the same shortcut to bring it back. I hope these tips have helped you understand why the SUM function may not be appearing in your status bar and how to fix it. Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more Excel tips and tricks!
