Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Fix the vertical scroll bar in Excel.

Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel Podcast, where we help you become an Excel pro. In today’s episode, we will be discussing a common issue that many Excel users face – the vertical scroll bar stops working. This can be frustrating and time-consuming, but fear not, we have a solution for you.

One of our viewers wrote in with the following problem: /”I lost the scrolling ability from top to bottom when I try and drag the right scrollbar down from row one to row 960 it doesn’t work. I have to use the down arrow which takes a lot longer./” This is a common issue that can occur when using Excel, but it can be easily fixed with a few simple steps.

First, we need to understand why the scroll bar is not working. When you grab the scroll bar and try to scroll, it immediately takes you to the bottom of the sheet. This is because Excel thinks you want to go all the way down to the last row, which is row 1048576. This can happen if you accidentally press Ctrl+Down Arrow while in the last row with data, or if you delete a cell in that row. Excel remembers this action and the scroll bar becomes broken.

But don’t worry, it only takes 30 seconds to fix this issue. You just need to follow these six steps carefully. First, press Ctrl+End to go to the last row with data. Then, press Ctrl+Home to go back to the top. Next, find a column that has data all the way down and press Ctrl+Down Arrow to jump to the last row. From there, go down one more row and press Ctrl+Shift+Down Arrow to select all the rows from the first blank row to the last row in Excel. Finally, on the Home tab, click on Delete and choose /”Delete Sheet Rows/”. Don’t forget to save your workbook by pressing Ctrl+S, as this is what will make Excel recalculate the last row and fix the scroll bar issue.

If you were using the down arrow to get to row 960, you’ll be happy to know that there are other ways to navigate through your data. You can use the Page Up and Page Down keys to move one screen full of data at a time. Another useful shortcut is Ctrl+End to go to the last row with data, and Ctrl+Home to go back to cell A1. But my personal favorite is using the Ctrl+Down Arrow shortcut to jump to the last row of a column that is completely filled in, such as the first name column. Just remember to add the Shift key to select all the data from that row onwards.

I hope this tip helped you fix the vertical scroll bar issue in Excel. I have a problem in Excel. About a week ago, the vertical scroll bar on an Excel worksheet stopped working. I lost the scrolling ability from top to bottom. So when I try to drag the right scroll bar from row 1 down to row 960, it doesn’t work. I have to use the down arrow, which takes a lot longer.
