Enable IMAP in Gmail account in settings. You will then be able to use Gmail with Outlook express, Thunderbird and other email clients. The benefit to using IMAP is that your emails will be synced on all your devices. They will only be deleted when you choose to delete them in your email client. This will also save you on server space.
