Welcome back, educators.
How to find and remove duplicate rows?
And how to filter duplicate cells?
To remove the duplicate rows, select the data, then click Remove duplicates on the Data menu.
Click Remove duplicates.
Google Sheets has found 5 duplicate rows and removed them.
We could find the duplicate rows using the COUNTIFS formula.
We have got the same result using the COUNTIFS formula.
The Remove duplicates feature and the COUNTIFS formula, both check if there are duplicate entire rows.
What if we have 2 rows different in just one cell?
We can’t find these rows using the Remove duplicates feature or COUNTIFS formula that we’ve used before.
So, we’ll use the COUNTIF formula instead.
to find the duplicate cells in a specific column.
Our mission is to check if every cell in a specific column is unique or duplicate.
The COUNTIF formula counts cells that meet a condition in a specific range.
We’ve named the ranges to facilitate typing the formula. If not, we need to lock the range by adding the $ symbol.
The formula returns the number of occurrences of the cell in the range.
The logic that we’ll use if it is greater than one.
Copy the formula and past it.
This is the result of the filter.
That is because the filter checks the occurrence of the first cell in the range.
If it isn’t greater than one, the filter doesn’t show the cell and its row.
Then check the second cell, then the third, and so on.
The filter returns just the cells that correspond to the logical condition that we’ve added.
Every time the formula returns TRUE, the cell and its row appear.
Check the second column if it has duplicate cells.
Check the third column if it has duplicate cells.
Check the fourth column if it has duplicate cells.
Check the fifth column if it has duplicate cells.
