VSS supports all webcams, and most IP cameras and DVRs. Analog cameras and DVRs can be connected to VSS with the help of video capture cards.
In addition, VSS has a powerful screen and audio recording feature that can be used to monitor computer usage, or record online classes, meetings, TV shows and games.
Using VSS as DVR has the following advantages.
(1) VSS supports both cloud and local recording. You can view cloud footage anywhere, anytime.
(2) More powerful software and features.
VSS and the PC operating system offer much more powerful features and remote management capabilities than a DVR.
(3) No vendor lock-in.
It supports most IP cameras, DVRs and all webcams. You are not limited to one hardware or service provider.
(4) Flexibility and expandability
You can mix different camera brands. It is very easy to add more cameras. Just connect more cameras to the same network.
(5) Low cost
You can save a lot on cameras and DVRs as you have far more choices on camera hardware. Our service price is also much lower than other cloud services.
(6) VSS can record computer screen and audio.
You can record online classes, meetings, TV shows and games; you can monitor computer usage by kids or employees
To get started, please download VSS and install it on your Windows PC first, then log in or sign up a new account. You can then add a camera in VSS. There are 3 camera types: (1) IP camera; (2) Webcam ; (3) Screen-recording camera.
Adding a webcam is very simple. just select a webcam and a microphone, then select the recording parameters. Multiple webcams can be added, including External webcams.
Adding a screen-recording camera is also easy. Just select a screen, and then select whether to record the audio from the Microphone and the speaker.
Now, let’s add an IP camera or DVR. Adding a DVR is like adding multiple IP cameras. You just need to repeat the steps.
Step 1: Find the camera’s IP address in VSS.
VSS can find a camera’s IP address using the ONVIF, HTTP or RTSP protocol. A few camera brands or models require users to manually enable ONVIF or create an ONVIF user account. If so, you can do it by logging into the camera’s setup interface.
Step 2: Find the camera’s video stream URL.
Select the camera, click Next, then log in to the camera. VSS will start searching for the camera’s video URLs. Select a video stream URL in the list, then click Next.
Please note many cameras support multiple video streams of different resolutions, frame rates and bit rates. You must select a stream with the video parameters higher than the plan you ordered on CameraFTP. If multiple video streams meet the condition, select the stream with the lowest video parameters. If the video parameters are too high, you can log in to the camera’s setup interface to lower them.
Step 3: Configure the camera recording parameters and settings.
You can bind the camera with a license, incl. a free trial license. If you bind it with a video recording license, then VSS will record video clips; otherwise, it will record image snapshots. Dependent on your service plan, you can configure the camera to record to the cloud or to a local drive. Please make sure your recording parameters don’t exceed the plan you ordered.
Click Next to finish configuring Motion Detection settings and schedule settings, then click Finish. VSS will add the camera to its GUI.
You can add multiple cameras to VSS. It can display multiple cameras like a CCTV system.
If you use an analog camera or DVR, then you need to order a video capture card. Multiple video capture cards are needed for multiple analog cameras. Each card is treated as a webcam.
In addition to live viewing, VSS can play back recorded footage. If the footage is recorded to the cloud, you can launch web browser based viewer, or install CameraFTP Viewer app for iOS and Android.
VSS is integrated with CameraFTP’s cloud service. Once your cameras are added, you can access other advanced features, such as Sharing, Publishing or live streaming a camera, generating time lapse, or embedding live camera video in your own web pages, etc. Please visit https://www.CameraFTP.com website and click Features.
