More babies were born in the United States in 2007 than any other year in the nation’s history — and a wedding band made increasingly little difference in the matter. The 4,317,119 births, reported by federal researchers Wednesday, topped a record first set in 1957 at the height of the baby boom.
When births were booming in 2007, the U.S. recorded 4.3 million births. — The U.S. birth rate dropped to about 56 births per 1,000 women of child-bearing age, the lowest rate on record.
Slightly fewer than 4 million babies are born in the United States each year, and the details of how, when, and where they arrive are always shifting. Total fertility rate is an estimate of the average number of births a group of women have over their lifetime.

India was the jewel in the crown of the British Empire. As well as spices, jewels and textiles, India had a huge population. Indian troops helped the British control their empire, and they played a key role in fighting for Britain right up to the 20th century.
The British were able to take control of India mainly because India was not united. The British signed treaties and made military and trading alliances with many of the independent states that made up India. They often left the local princes in charge of the various parts of India.
The Indian subcontinent had the largest economy of any region in the world for most of the interval between the 1st century and 18th century. Up until 1000 CE, its GDP per capita was not much higher than subsistence level.
