In this video, DIYNate quickly covers two ways to fully factory reset the Amazon Fire TV Stick when the system is having major problems or you want to give away or sell your device. DIYNate’s original problem he was experiencing involved the ‘Home is Currently Unavailable’ message and after troubleshooting his network or other basic solves he resorted to a factory reset. Note, you will lose any information saved on your device (it may still be available through your Amazon profile, but will likely require re-downloading). Setting back up a fire stick is not an insignificant effort if you have lots of apps, but it is better than not having a working device.

Note: These tips are meant to only be used after trying other steps to rebooting to get past error messages, unless you are simply trying to clear the Fire stick and start from scratch. DIYNate assembled these tips from his own internet search and from performing the operation himself to get his device up and running. DIYNate is not a professional or an expert on this particular product line. Additionally, the make and model of the Amazon Fire TV Stick and the latest application / software may not be applicable for your particular device (filmed in summer of 2022 for reference).

If you are unable to access any of the main screen areas (like Settings), or Settings simply keeps requesting you to reboot the fire stick or check your network connections, then resetting using the remote keypad is the solution DIYNate used. This is a factory reset that can be done even if you are unable to access the My Fire TV menu.
• Press and hold the Back button (half circle with arrow) and the right directional selection on the circular navigation control at the same time for around 10-15 seconds. It may take a couple tries for the remote to recognize both buttons being pressed at the same time (not shown in the video – took about 3-4 tries before it ‘took’).
• You will get a message asking to confirm factory reset with a countdown. If you do not want the factory reset to occur, you should quick cancel before the timer counts down.

If you are able to access your Settings Menu and the My Fire TV area:
• Navigate to Settings – My Fire TV – Reset to Factory Defaults and choose that option
• You will receive a message confirming the factory reset and you can proceed from there

Finally, if issues persist:
• Amazon does include a notation in their error message indicating to contact their customer service for assistance; they may work to resolve your issue, offer assistance in replacing, or have other methods of troubleshooting
• If all else fails, you can shop for a new Amazon Fire TV Stick here: https://amzn.to/3cFBJOZ

Don’t want a full factory reset and looking for other troubleshooting steps? Try these first:
• Check for network connectivity to ensure the issue is related to the device and not your home network
• Attempt a normal reset (non-factory) by pressing and holding the select + home button until a normal reboot occurs
• Unplug the Fire Stick from the power source for at least 20-30 seconds before reconnecting
• Attempt other on-screen fixes / troubleshooting before resorting to a full factory reset

Feel free to add comments, suggestions, or pointers for other users in the comments to help other Fire TV users out when they run into similar issues.
